The lighthouse that’s on the waterfront was originally built in 1886 out in the Roanoke River. It was a beacon to ships coming through that river for many years.

The Roanoke River Lighthouse 1866 – Plymouth, NC

The current day Roanoke River Lighthouse in Plymouth, NC is actually a replica of one that was farther down the Roanoke River back in the 1800’s. It was one of over a dozen in the Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds that helped light the way for sailors along the Inner Banks.
